AccessONIX

AccessONIX

To improve the discoverability of Accessible formats by distributors, DPS has developed "AccessOnix."
This unique tool integrates data from a Certified Accessible EPUB3 file with the original ONIX record to produce a "remediated" ONIX 3.0 record, ensuring compliance and enhanced discoverability.
Each generated record will follow this standard filename format: AccessONIX_[ISBN][Date][Timestamp].

How to Use:

Upload the two basic "ingredients" for the remediated record:

1. the Accessible ePub3 meeting WCAG standards

2. the original ONIX record for the Print edition

3. Enter the ISBN desired for the new remediated record

4. Select "Enhanced" to add sender, product and pricing information.

5. Click "Generate ONIX" to create and download the new record to a local drive.

6, Open the Validator.

Click Validate" to create the Results report to verify that the required elements in the file are present. or to show errors.

DPS provides a free "remediated" ONIX record for every title converted to an Accessible format through our service.
Alert
The AccessONIX Validator is a useful tool which may be used independently for checking any ONIX record for an accessible format.

How AccessONIX Works

Codelist 196 is a set of ONIX standards specifically created for Accessible formats.
AccessONIX uses this "crosswalk" to extract accessibility data from the Schema file in the ePub, merging this with the original record to create a "remediated" record which meets all Accessibility standards.

Every Accessible ePub created for clients by DPS after 2025-01-01 is delivered with a remediated ONIX record meeting current Accessibility standards.
Every title on the platform accompanied by an AccessONIX record is flagged in the client site as shown below.
