The AccessONIX Service

To improve the visibility (discoverability) of Accessible formats, DPS provides a free "remediated" ONIX record for every title converted to an Accessible format through our service.

The ONIX Backlist Service also makes it easy for DPS clients to order remediated ONIX for any previously converted accessible format. For pricing, see item 15 on Services and Pricing.

How AccessONIX Works

The two basic "ingredients" for a remediated record are:
- the original ONIX record for the Print edition
- the Accessible ePub3 meeting WCAG standards

Codelist 196 is a set of ONIX standards specifically created for Accessible formats.

AccessONIX uses this "crosswalk" to extract data from the Schema file in the ePub, merging this with the original record to creating a "remediated" record which meets all Accessibility standards.

After 10-01-2024, every Accessible ePub created for clients by DPS is delivered with a remediated ONIX record meeting current Accessibility standards.  The free service may also be requested for conversions supplied by DPS before October 2024. 

Backlist ONIX may be ordered for titles not converted by DPS. To use it, open a DPS account, create records for the titles required, place in cart, and select Backlist ONIX.

Every title on the platform accompanied by an AccessONIX record is flagged in the client site as shown below.
